Why publish my thoughts?
I retired from technical writing in July 2017. I have always had an interest in writing so I thought I would write and publish articles on topics of interest to me. My interests are broad. They include technology, agriculture, architecture, transportation and the environment. I'm publishing my thoughts primarily for my own benefit, as writing helps me to clarify my thoughts, although I hope they will be of interest to others. They are my personal thoughts and certainly do not provide all the possible views on a topic. It's simply a way for me to put forward my personal perspective and have my say on what matters to me.
My poetry
The poems I publish include a selection of poems I have written at various times over the years. I tend to record some of the more significant events through poetry. Some poems have been edited and refined over the years (and you might say they still need work). Poetry is a succinct form of writing… a bit like why I enjoyed technical writing.
My poems express my thoughts and emotions on various events in my life. I intend to add to the collection as events inspire me to write. I don't aim to conform to any formal poetry standards. It's simply my form of poetry and a way of expressing my thoughts in this abridged form.
Brief background
I changed to technical writing about 10 years before my retirement. I was involved in analysing, documenting and publishing policies, processes, procedures and product information for divisions of large organisations in the banking and finance industry.
Before technical writing I worked at a large Australian bank. A really interesting area I worked in and helped establish was Computer Based Training. It was around the time personal computers first appeared in business. We used early personal computers to deliver training modules and monitor the training of branch staff around Australia. In my later years at the bank I was involved in the implementation and support of a payment system to allow the bank to not only meet, but benefit from the compliance requirement to move to a system of real time gross payments between banks. This was a very rewarding and successful project.
