On Friday evening, 6 February 2026 (Sydney NSW, Australia time), I watched the opening of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, in Italy. I believe it was the first time the opening ceremony was held in multiple locations. It was extremely interesting and enjoyable. I really appreciated the Italian and Olympic history covered in the ceremony.
The ceremony seemed to me to be a little more restrained than some previous ceremonies, which is certainly not a bad thing, as the imagery was all incredibly effective and entertaining. The flag raising and speeches provided sufficient formality without going overboard. The music was enjoyable, but again not over done.
I really enjoyed the ceremony, and would consider it well worth watching.
